VPD Issues Official Response To Claims Made Regarding VPD Dispatch Operations
Posted on 07/22/2022

VALLEJO - On Friday, July 29, 2022, the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the City.

DUI Checkpoints like this one are established based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment and will also be checking to ensure drivers have the proper licensing.

The Vallejo Police Department reminds drivers that DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze. If you are driving and take prescription drugs or medications with warning labels that preclude you from driving or operating machinery, you may be impaired enough to get a DUI. The consumption of marijuana may also cause impairment or result in a DUI, particularly in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

The Vallejo Police Department offers this information as a reminder to be responsible while driving:

  • If you have consumed alcohol or any substance that causes impairment, contact a designated driver that is licensed and sober to get home. Call a friend, use a ride-sharing service or public transportation to get to your destination.

  • If you are hosting a party where alcohol is present, monitor who is drinking, how much is being consumed and ensure participants have safe options to get home. You may also offer non-alcoholic beverages as an alternative.

  • If you see someone who is attempting to drive while under the influence or is visibly impaired, call 911.

The cost of risking your life and the well-being of others is not worth it! Drivers who’ve been arrested and charged with driving while under the influence can expect to incur penalties of at least $13,500.00. This cost includes fines, fees, license suspension, DUI classes and other expenses. Do not risk your own life and the well-being of others by being irresponsible. Drive safely and responsibly or don’t drive at all.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Vallejo Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
